I often introduce myself as “Ben,” and my closest friends call me “Benji.” My 10th grade English teacher called me ” ‘Jamin.” A lot of people ask me about my middle name too – “Vo” is my mom’s maiden name.

Currently, I’m a junior at Vanderbilt University intersecting my interests in the life sciences and business. As a result, I’m double-majoring in Human & Organizational Development (HOD) and Molecular & Cellular Biology and minoring in Business. Originally from Long Island, New York, I graduated from Jericho High School in 2018.

My current interests include the future of biology, community & social impact, and graphic design. On campus, I conduct CRISPR/Cas9 research in the Advanced Therapeutics Laboratory and serve as the Director of Client Relations & Partnerships for Vanderbilt Students Consulting for Nonprofit Organizations

I’m also a freelance website developer and graphic designer as a current Junior Developer for One of One Design Co. I also served as the Director of Technology for Vanderbilt Student Government

what i'm interested in

Outside of school and work, you can find me exploring new coffee shops (Barista Parlor is currently my favorite in Nashville) and reading sci-fi books or biographies. My favorite type of day is a Saturday with a morning hike, brunch with friends, and cooking my grandma’s traditional Chinese recipes. I love white-water rafting and talking about all-things science with everyone. A bucket list item is to become certified in scuba diving so I can visit the Galapagos.

Current Favorites:

  • Book (biography): Angela’s Ashes by Frank McCourt
  • Book (sci-fi): Exhalation by Ted Chiang
  • Coffee Shop (Nashville): Barista Parlor in East Nashville
  • Coffee Shop (New York): Urban Backyard in SoHo
  • Grandma’s Recipe: 5-Spice Spare Ribs
  • White-water rapids: Hudson River in Upstate NY in April
